In the opening episode of Silent Witness we see an engagement party taking place within what looks like a popular club. Once the party has finished everyone steps outside and a drive by shooting takes place from what loos like a gang. Unfortunately the club owner's (Ainsley Modest) girlfriend/fiance is shot in the drive by shooting and dies. We see police and forensics teams at the location of the murder and they manage to track the vehicle where they then find a decomposing corpse within a wooded box. This opening scene sets up the main story and we can see that there are 2 plots to this story which can then make the story last over more than just one episode.

We see everyone at Helen and Ainsley's engagement party within Ainsley's club. With everyone congratulating her and happy for them both the party ends and people start to leave the club. With Ainsley, Helen and some of Helen's friends standing outside the club about to go home a vehicle drives past and out of it's window is a sub machine gun. The sub machine gun starts spraying bullets at the club and the people standing outside. People drop to the floor to try and avoid the bullets however Helen is shot and falls into her friends arms, with the car speeding off Ainsley turns around and sees that his soon to be wife is laying on the floor dead, we think being killed by those wow carried out the drive by shooting. We then see forensics teams looking at the crime scene to try and figure out what happened. Harry and Nikki then appear on the scene and start asking what happened.
