Production Diary - Single Camera Production

27th January 2014:
This lesson we have discussed what we are going to do/change with the script we have chosen. After much discussion we decided to settle on jacks script and have finished looking at what we are going to change and keep the same. Most of the script is being kept the same apart from a few character changes and certain shots being changed due to lack of actors, however we have finalized where we are going to shoot the scenes and are looking to get the certain props we need for scenes and found out where we can get these props next lesson.

28th January 2014:
Carried on with pre-production work and attempted to get everything completed so we could start to shoot on Monday. Each group member picked a scene and started to storyboard it and this would be the scene that they would then have complete control of and direct. Last read through to know exactly what we needed to film for Monday. Next lesson (Monday 3rd) we plan to start filming our short film getting the high street locations shot.

3rd February 2014:
Due to lack of planning and funds we were unable to obtain a Polaroid camera/photos which is one of the main props for our short film. So we used this lesson to finalize the pre-production and get it completed. Myself and Kirk went to the locations we wanted to film in and got location releases so we were allowed to film there (British Heart Foundation and Flour and Bean Cafe both on Gorleston high street.) whilst Hannah and Jack made Polaroid photo props on Photoshop. We also sourced a Polaroid camera from a friend that we would be able to use. Next lesson as we are now organised we are going to start filming.

4th February 2014:
Today we started to shoot our short film, we managed to get shots from the Cafe and The British Heart Foundation although we unable to finish filming in the Cafe. Due to continuity we have decided to scrap the Cafe footage we got today and re-shoot it as certain things wouldn't look the same when filming on different days (clothes, tables and chairs etc). Next lesson we plan to re-shoot the Cafe scene and hopefully get the cinema scene done as when these are done everything else can be shot in college.

5th February 2014:
Today we finished filming within the cafe and uploaded all of our footage, we also started to put together a rough cut of what footage we have and also decided what needs to be done. Fortunately nothing we have needs to be re-shot and we can now move on to the scenes that take place within the college. Next lesson Jack is away and so cannot film any scenes that involve the character Tyler, however we are going to try and complete as many scenes as possible.

24th February 2014:
Having most of the footage complete we decided to start to put together a rough cut of our production and see what was left that needed to be done. After seeing that most of the 'easier' scenes were complete we wanted to use out last week of filming to film the last few scenes of our production. We shot the outside bench scene were Sophie admits to Naomi that she does in fact like Tyler and realizes what shes going to buy for him in the secret Santa. However after seeing the footage we decided to re-shoot it as we felt it wasn't up to a good enough standard. We shot the scene again however we forgot to turn the microphone on and so had no audio. We plan on re-shooting the scene again or starting a different scene tomorrow.

25th February 2014:
Today instead of re-shooting the scene we filmed yesterday we decided to get the unwrapping of the presents scene complete and most of the last scenes done, however we needed props. So we made a book cover for 'Once Upon A Dream' on Photoshop and printed off some sheets of paper to look like wrapping paper and started to wrap 'presents' up for our production. As we got all of the props sorted for the scene we needed to shot the scene. Next lesson we hope to look through the footage and see if we need to re-shoot anything for our production. If we don't need to we will start to shoot the final scenes and re-shoot the scene that we forget to get audio for.

26th February 2014:
Today we finalized what we are going to do and what props etc we need for each day, we basically made a mini production schedule. Once we decided what we needed to do we shot close ups and reaction shots for the scene we done yesterday and again put a rough cut together to see what we had. We also started to make a title for our production on after effects trying to create a pen writing out our title which is still a work in progress. Next lesson we plan on shooting one of our scenes that is done within the college grounds and to get our title for our production done. Also we plan on making sure everything is ready for us to re-shoot the footage that wasn't up to standard the other day.

27th February 2014:
We shot one of our final scenes as uploaded it to our production area, we added it to our rough cut and also started to add transitions like cross fades and fades to our production. Next lesson we plan to continue with editing and to finish off one of our final scenes for our production. We also need to look for music and sound effects that are not copyrighted and that we will be able to use within our production.

28th February 2014:
Friday we continued to edit our production and found some suitable Christmas music to use. As we had this we were able to add it to our footage and play around with it to add emotion to our production. Next week we want to finish all of our filming and focus purely on editing.

5th February 2014:
Today we got all the footage we had filmed from previous weeks and made a 'final rough cut' of our production. Once it was checked over and we were told what would be good and what needed to be done we went through step by step and started to add transitions and started to properly edit our production. Our next lesson and the lessons from here on will consist of editing our production and re-shoot anything that needs to be re-shoot.

10th February 2014:
After being away for a few lessons I could see that our editing was getting along nicely and we are making real progress. Unfortunately as Jack who plays Tyler in the production had a dentist appointment we were unable to shoot our final scene outside the cinema, however due to how our lessons fall on tomorrows timetable we will be able to shoot the final scene tomorrow and have enough time to perfect the shots so they don't need to be re-shot. So today we will again be editing and trying to perfect and finalize everything so all we need to do tomorrow is a small amount of editing and to shot our scene. Tomorrow as said before we plan to shoot our final scene and try to finish or at least get most of the editing done.

11th February 2014:
Today we shot our final scene outside the cinema, filming went well and we got some really good shots, after coming back and uploading our footage to the iMac we started editing our final scene as most of the editing was done and we only really needed to fully edit our last scene and change small little details on the rest of the production. The next lessons will now be purely focused on editing our short film and making it perfect before the deadline.

12th February 2014:
As said in the previous post we are purely editing and finalizing our production. We magaged to put a rough cut of our final scene together and finish most of the starting scenes for our short film. Next lesson we will try to complete most of our editing but as said before the main focus for the group now is to edit everything and finish it before the deadline.

13th February 2014:
As said in the other posts we are purely focusing on editing to get our production ready for the deadline which is tomorrow. Today we finished the end credits and started to just do small modifications to our production to make it the best it can be. Next lesson is our final lesson and we will get our entire production finished and ready to export.
