Our first continuity exercise

What we did well:
I think the most successful part about our first continuity exercise was the match on actions we did and also the camera angles that were used in the clip. For example the match on action of Alex walking to the door and then opening the door I think was very successful and also the match on action of Alex pushing Kieran off of the table and then Alex walking out looked very good and also flowed and looked smooth with no jerky camera movements/cuts. The end credits were a good touch as we had a picture in the background whilst the credits rolled and no other group had this so i thought it worked well.

What we didn't do so well:
The thing we didn't so well in my opinion was what text we picked for the title its too big and also looks slightly out of place with the whole theme on the video. Another thing is the end credits rolled slightly too fast and you couldn't really see what they said. In one shot where Alex is leaning over Kieran you can see that he has moved over so we could get an over the shoulder shot, we could have used a different angle so this didn't happen.

What went smoothly when filming/editing:
When filming I feel that deciding on where the camera should go and the camera angles went smoothly and we all agreed on what we should do to make the clip look as good as possible. I also think that it went well as we only had to do 1 or 2 takes on each shot so we had enough time to think about what would make the next shot as best it could be as we wasn't spending a lot of time on retaking shots. During editing all the group found it easy to use the software and we were all able to come to decisions quickly and effectively, which again we benefited from as we were able to spend more time on perfecting out short clip.

What didn't go so smoothly when filming/editing:
What I thought didn't go so well during filming and editing was picking the music to put into the clip, we couldn't decide what music to use as some members thought certain bits of music were bad whilst others thought it was good, so it took a while to come to a decision. We also had a sheet that we could follow if we weren't able to do something that we wanted on our editing however we didnt follow this sheet and instead asked for help I think that we could of followed and done it ourself instead od asking.

What do you feel you could improve/if you were to do this task again what would you do differently?:
I think that if we was to do this task again we could think of better angles for the shots as some were not as good as they could have been, such as the over the shoulder shot of alex when he had moved over and it looked very poor. I think we could have also improved the music we used as it was just a small clip that we used from Seans large amount of music snipits, also we chose the music very quickly and didnt think about if it would fit with the short film and we also just put the music on although this worked and was just a coinsedance I think next time we should think about it more so we can make our clip even better than it already was.

  1. Matt,
This is a mature reflection on the work and shows real promise. You have used terms correctly and written about the whole video rather than focussing on limited aspects, well done. As always, there is room to add more terms but for a first piece of writing, I'm very pleased.

    P.S., it's 'coincidence'
